Conroe ISD students are headed back to school Aug. 9 and the district’s transportation department is ready to transport move 40,000 students to and from school every day.
Here are the top five things you should know about the department and finding your child’s bus route:
Get registered
If a student is new to CISD and qualifies for and would like to use bus transportation, they must be registered with the district.
According to board policy, students who live more than one mile from school or students who live near identified hazardous roads, such as a highway, are eligible for transportation services.
Signing up early is helpful and allows the department to make routing information available earlier to families and level student numbers on buses.
Students that qualified for and rode the bus with CISD last school year do not need to register again.
To register your student, visit the transportation link on the CISD website.
Finding your route
After registering your child for bus service, go to the transportation portal link to find the latest route information. An email and phone message will go out to parents to regarding the latest route information. For safety reasons stops are not placed on dead-end streets, cul-de-sacs or dirt roads.

All pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students must be met at the bus stop by a parent/ guardian, or designated individual named on the Transportation Supervision Waiver Form.
Student-tracking system
Conroe ISD uses the SMART Tag system to increase security and efficiency across its campuses. Returning CISD students will use their SMART tag ID from the previous year and new students, including students new to a campus, will receive a new SMART tag ID.
As students enter and exit their bus, they tap these ID cards onto a card reader. Each time a student taps their ID card on the bus, the bus driver’s onboard tablet helps validate the child got on the correct bus route and your child got off at the correct stop.

What to expect
With thousands of students using transportation services, parents and guardians should expect delays the first week. School officials said routes will not run like clockwork the first couple of days for many reasons including heavy traffic, drivers learning new rough and students learning how to load and unload.
Chris McCord, assistant superintendent of operations for CISD, said the district will adjust the routes in the first few days.
Now hiring
