Online retailer The Iconic has been rocked by incidents of account hacking, with a slew of customers claiming fraudsters have used their accounts to purchase goods with their money. 

The reports came via the ABC which spoke to a number of individuals with the same experience of people making fraudulent transactions via their Iconic accounts.

The Iconic, which has denied a data breach, is now working with customers to issue full refunds and provide assistance.

The Iconic Fraud Allegations, Explained

The ABC published a report that multiple account holders with The Iconic had strangers access their accounts, purchase products with their saved card details, sending the goods to a new address. 

A Perth resident told the ABC someone had made a transaction with her details, purchasing a $699 Dyson product and sending it to a location in Melbourne.

The Australian public broadcaster reportedly spoke to “several” customers with similar incidents, some reporting in excess of $1000 taken from their accounts. 

How Did The Iconic Respond?

The retailer released a statement confirming they were working with affected customers. The Iconic also pledged full refunds for any fraudulent purchases made. 

“Our teams are also proactively intercepting unauthorised access attempts and cancelling any fraudulent orders made, in addition to providing customers with full refunds for any successful orders made that have been dispatched,” a spokesperson said. 

The brand also sent an email to its account holders reassuring them that they are “committed to ensuring that your shopping experience with us feels safe and secure.”

“With scam activity and online fraud on the rise in Australia and New Zealand across all industries, we want to remind you of the importance of account security and encourage you to strengthen your ICONIC account by regularly changing your password.”

The email also contained instructions on how to change your password and tips for creating a strong password.

Was There A Data Breach?

The Iconic has confirmed that there was not a data breach. According to the brand, there  hasn’t been any widespread security issues and these incidents are not related to a data breach.

What To Do If You Suspect Fraudulent Activity On Your Iconic Account

The Iconic has instructed customers who notice any “unusual activity” on their account to contact their customer service team.

According to an email sent to customers, if you suspect unusual activity, you can contact the team via their online chat function, where they “will escalate your concern to our Security and Fraud teams.” 

The Iconic has promised full refunds for dispatched fraudulent orders.
