A WOMAN was left needing to get her arm amputated after she was mauled by a shark at a Red Sea beach.
The tourist was savagely bitten by the beast while she was swimming with a friend at a beach at the resort Dahab.
Horrified onlookers fled from the sea after the attack at the resort near Sharm el-Sheikh.
The woman was rescued from the sea and unconscious as she was hospitalised.
Her condition was later described as “stable”.
Dramatic footage showed the moment of her rescue from the beach, as she was rushed to an ambulance.
A two-hour search with harpoons for the shark failed to locate the animal, even though it was seen in the sea, according to reports.
The beach in South Sinai was closed by the authorities in the wake of the attack.
A shark had been seen prowling the waters off Egyptian resort Dahab in August which led to a temporary ban on swimming at the time, but it had since re-opened.
The attack on the woman follows an incident in June when Russian tourist Vladimir Popov, 23, was mauled to death by a tiger shark in Hurghada.
One theory is that he was killed by a predator that had also fatally attacked tourists a year earlier.
In July 2022, 68-year-old Austrian tourist Elisabeth Sauer was snorkelling when she was attacked in the water.
A second victim, a Romanian tourist, was eaten alive some 650ft away.
In the latest case, reports say swimmers on Laguna Beach in Dahab initially mistook a shark for a tuna.
The unidentified victim was reported to be a tourist from the Egyptian city of Alexandria.
