Worcester Co. School officials release statement on school safety | #schoolsaftey

WORCESTER CO., Md. – The Worcester County Board of Education says schools in their system are not unsafe.

On Tuesday, the board released a statement, saying there is a breakdown of communication between the Sheriff, State’s Attorney, and the school board’s executive team.

This comes on the heels of a letter drafted by the Sheriff and State’s Attorney, questioning the safety of students in Worcester County. They claim school safety incidents are not always being properly reported. All involved parties have been discussing the situation behind closed doors, and the school board says it sees they can’t seem to come to an agreement.

The board did announce the creation of a School Safety Task Force, with the goal of furthering the priority of providing a safe learning environment. This task force will be made up of three board members, the Superintendent, and/or the Chief Safety Officer. The Sheriff and State’s Attorney will also be invited to be active members as well.

The task force will serve as a liaison to the board on all matters concerning school safety, plus make recommendations to the board.
