A Yolo County jury convicted a 45-year-old man of trying to meet a minor for sex. Jayson Proctor, an unhoused person from Sacramento, was convicted on Friday of one count of communicating with a minor with the intent to commit an illegal sex act and one count of arranging a meeting with a minor to engage in lewd and lascivious behavior, the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office said. He was arrested in the parking of a Carl’s Junior in West Sacramento on Sept. 16 while trying to meet who he thought was a 15-year-old boy for sex. The meeting followed 10 days of online conversations on a dating app between Proctor and someone affiliated with the online organization “People v. Preds,” the Yolo County DA’s office said. The person behind the account had set up a decoy profile that posed as the boy and documented conversations where Proctor detailed sex acts he wanted to perform. People v. Preds uses artificial intelligence to pose as minors and engage with predators to set up meetings, the DA’s office said. The group then reports that information to local law enforcement.Proctor is set to be sentenced on Jan. 23. He faces a possible maximum sentence of 4 years and 8 months in state prison. “The internet can be a tool for education and entertainment, but it also harbors real dangers that we must confront,” District Attorney Jeff Reisig said in a statement. “Predators exploit online platforms to target children. Talk openly with your children about online dangers. Monitor their activity, set privacy controls, and know their online world.
