Cyber crimes account for 26% of all crimes registered in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM – Speaker of the Parliament of Mongolia G. Zandanshatar called provisions included in the draft law on cyber crime “too general”. The Speaker stressed that more specific and subjective provisions are needed instead of general ones to implement and intensify digital transition at the beginning of today’s Parliament session, GoGoMongolia reports.

Digital usage in Mongolia increases steadily, as well as the number of cyber crimes. The number of cyber crimes was 659 in 2018 and 737 in 2019, while 8,818 cyber crimes were registered as of this November. Cyber crimes accounted for 1.8% of all crimes in 2018, but they account for 26.3% now. There is a risk that one-third of all crimes will be cyber crimes in future.

The provisions to prevent children from becoming victims of cyber crime should be included in the draft law on cyber security, the Speaker added. For example, parliament.mn was hacked. There are thousands of attacks on data centers. Actions to protect against potential risks must be taken, such as preventing electronic signatures from being forged or hacked, G. Zandanshatar stated.

There are about 350,000 fake accounts. There is also an advertisement for forging electronic signatures.

At the end of the session, with 93 votes, the amendments made to the bills on the elimination of duplication of laws related to the provision of public services in electronic form were transferred to the Standing Committee on Innovation and E-Policy for preparation for the final discussion.
