A recent child predator sting in Huntsville has caught the community’s attention. Huntsville Police arrested 10 men in a two-day operation, charging them with a total of 34 offenses, including human trafficking and traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act.
Sergeant Chris Jackson of the Huntsville Police Department emphasized the primary goal of such operations is to protect children by preventing crimes before they occur. “It’s something that we’re going to keep doing,” Jackson said. “It’s something that we have success with, it’s something we are passionate about.”
Pam Clasgens, Community Awareness and Prevention Director at the National Children’s Advocacy Center, stressed the importance of open communication and a strong relationship between children and trusted adults. “The biggest thing that parents can do to help protect their kids is to have an open relationship, a warm and loving relationship with their child,” Clasgens said.
Jackson highlighted the necessity of children feeling they can trust and talk to adults. He noted that while details of the operations cannot be fully disclosed, parents should remain proactive in their children’s lives.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported more than 27,000 cases of child sex trafficking last year. Clasgens mentioned the NCAC offers a free “Stewards of Children” training class to help adults recognize warning signs and protect children. Click here for more information.
