LAHORE:The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Lahore Zone has arrested 26 people, including 17 women and nine men, in two separate operations against alleged cyber fraud and honey-trap activities.
According to the NCCIA, the operations were conducted under the supervision of Additional Director Lahore Zone Atif Ameer.In the first operation, 17 women were arrested from a call centre allegedly involved in honey-trap activities. The women reportedly contacted men through different online platforms and established relationships with them through prolonged conversations before bringing them to video calls. The NCCIA said the women subsequently engaged the individuals in inappropriate conversations and video interactions and obtained online gifts and other financial benefits from them.
During the operation, 35 mobile phones and two laptops were recovered from the arrested women. A case was registered in connection with the operation. In the second operation, the NCCIA targeted a call centre operating in Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore, which was allegedly defrauding citizens in the United Kingdom by offering mobile phone replacements and various communication packages.
According to the agency, the call centre employees contacted foreign citizens and offered them mobile phones and different packages. The customers were allegedly assured that mobile phones would be provided after payment. However, after receiving the money, the phones were allegedly not delivered. The victims were repeatedly assured that the phones would arrive soon, but were given new delivery dates, while the payments were also not returned, the NCCIA said. Nine men were arrested during the operation, while 10 mobile phones and five laptops were recovered from their possession. A case was registered. The NCCIA said interrogation of the arrested suspects and examination of the recovered mobile phones and laptops was underway.
