Nintendo has been going through the wringer lately when it comes to the Switch 2, as a number of different hacking exploits have popped up. Nintendo already had to pull one game from the eShop due to hacking vulnerabilities, and now it appears to be happening all over again, facilitated by Civilization VII.
Switch 2 hackers have found a new way to gain access to Switch 2, and this comes from a physical copy of Civilization VII. This hack uses the game’s chat feature to exploit a vulnerability to then input code via a connected USB device on Switch 2. The end result is hackers messing around inside the Switch 2, paving the way for all sorts of stuff Nintendo doesn’t want happening.
While not official at this point, there are rumblings of 2K yanking the physical Switch version of Civilization VII from sale. (The Switch 2 release is code-in-box, but a physical copy of the game is needed for this exploit) Gamers trying to buy physical copies have seen their orders cancelled, with one saying that Amazon customer service claimed the purchase was squashed due to a 2K mandate over “technical and security-related requirements.”
We’ll keep an eye out for statements from 2K or Nintendo on this matter an update our post should any fresh details come to light.
