GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A Grovetown police captain posed as a 14-year-old girl and captured a would-be sex predator, according to police.
Marcus Donnell Brown, 34, of Augusta, was arrested around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Police Chief Jamey Kitchens.
He faces a charge of criminal attempt – child molestation, according to Kitchens.

Earlier in the morning, Brown began chatting with what he believed to be the girl on a social media app, police said.
Despite being advised multiple times that he was conversing with a juvenile and even admitting that he could “go to jail,” Brown continued to send sexually explicit messages while also arranging a meeting location, police said.
During the chats, Brown was “very specific and graphic in his desires,” despite being reminded that he was conversing with a juvenile, Kitchens said.

Brown was taken into custody after traveling to a pre-determined meeting location in Grovetown, where instead of finding a girl, he was met by Kitchens and Capt. Will Loomer.
After his arrest, Brown was informed that he had in fact been messaging Loomer.
Brown was transported to the Columbia County Detention Center to be booked, according to Kitchens.
