The prosecutor’s office said several of the people arrested had “child sex crime histories,” one person is an undocumented immigrant and one person is an attorney.
INDIANAPOLIS — Eleven people were arrested after a large-scale investigation targeting online child sex offenders, according to the office of the Shelby County Prosecuting Attorney James B. Landwerlen.
The prosecutor’s office said the investigation involved undercover officers who posed as minors chatting with people online who were looking to target minors for “unlawful activity.”
Here’s a list of the people who were arrested and charged in Shelby County:
- John Michael Altman, 27, of Logansport – Attempted child molest and child solicitation
- Robert Owen Bland, 34, of Indianapolis – Dealing in methamphetamine, dealing in cocaine, making unlawful proposition and resisting law enforcement
- Jackson Daniel Renaker, 36, of Covington, Kentucky – Child solicitation
- Frederick Maxwell Walsh, 39, of Bloomington – Child solicitation
- Brandon Lamont Stephens, 36, of Indianapolis – Child solicitation
- Darren Stephens, 35, of Greenwood – Child solicitation
- Michael Allen Shelton, 73, of Shelbyville – Child solicitation
- Daniel Roy Martin, 47, of Oakwood, Ohio – Conspiracy to commit sexual misconduct with a minor
- Fernando Coronado-Olivares, 25, no known address – Child solicitation
- James Andrew Klimek, 58, of Indianapolis – Child solicitation
One additional person was arrested in Clinton County, and he is facing charges there.

The prosecutor’s office said several of the people arrested had “child sex crime histories,” one person is an undocumented immigrant and one person is an attorney.
The prosecutor’s office said most of the people arrested in this investigation traveled to Shelbyville to meet with minors while “expecting sexual activity,” and two people were arrested in other counties. However, one of the people arrested came to trade meth for sex with an adult.
In another instance, the prosecutor’s office said police identified and rescued an infant from “sexual abuse.” The alleged offender is in custody as a result of this investigation, and charges are pending in the other county, as their offense is still under investigation.

The investigation was led by the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), the Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office, the Shelby County ICAC Task Force, the Indiana State Police, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the Shelbyville Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations.
The investigation involved over 75 police officers and agents from 21 local, state and federal agencies and task forces.
How to report child exploitation or possible human trafficking
According to the United Nations, men, women and children of all ages and from all backgrounds can become victims. Human traffickers can use violence, fraudulent employment agencies and fake promises of education and job opportunities to trick and coerce their victims, according to the release.
