Anne Hathaway just revealed a major red carpet beauty hack. The Devil Wears Prada 2 actress gave fans a behind-the-scenes look into her preparation for the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
In an Instagram post liked over half a million times, Anne, 43, shared the trick that her hairstylist, Orlando Pita, does to make the actress look more “awake.” As she sat in a dressing gown, Anne told the camera: “Drumroll please…’Orlo, show them our secret.'”
Her hairstylist showed off two super tight braids in her mane, saying: “We do one on each side and we bring it together in the back.” Anne chimed in with a laugh: “And you look a little bit more awake, that’s the trick.”
To the awards show, the actress wore a black strapless floral gown by Valentino — a fitting tribute to the late designer, with whom she worked closely over the years. For her beauty, she opted for soft tones that subtly mirrored the delicate florals embroidered across her dress.
The Interstellar actress paired the floral gown with chandelier earrings and a bold necklace courtesy of Bulgari. And Anne’s hair was carefully constructed into a half-up, half-down look, including the hidden trick to emit an alert face.
Why was Anne Hathaway at the 98th Academy Awards?
While Anne wasn’t nominated at this year’s Oscars, she took the stage alongside Anna Wintour to present Best Costume and Best Makeup & Hairstyling. The duo delighted the crowd when they referenced Anne’s upcoming film, The Devil Wear’s Prada 2.
Anna, who is the longtime editor of Vogue, is widely understood to have inspired Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly.
“Anna, just curious, what do you think of my dress tonight?” Anne asked before they announced the winner.
“And the nominees are…,” Anna responded deadpan. Later, when the two went on to present their second award, Anne asked the magazine editor if she would “like to read the nominees.” Anna replied: “Thank you Emily,” jokingly referencing Anne’s costar Emily Blunt and her character, Emily.
Anne’s Oscars history
Anne is no stranger to the biggest award show of the year. In 2013, the actress won her very own Academy Award for her raw performance in Les Misérables. Her win came five years after her nomination for Best Actress for her role in Rachel Getting Married.
Aside from being a nominee, Anne co-hosted the ceremony in 2011 alongside James Franco. While the odd-couple’s performance was widely panned, Anne was applauded for her energy next to a lackluster James.
A decade later during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the star admitted: “We sucked.” And before the 91st Academy Awards in 2019, she wrote to Instagram: “No matter what happens with today’s show, just remember, it’s already been worse.”
