A convicted child molester had new charges filed against him by the Placer County District Attorney’s Office as he was set to be released on parole on Thursday.David Allen Funston, 64, is accused of molesting a child in Roseville in 1996, Placer County prosecutors said.(Previous coverage in the video player above) Funston was convicted of kidnapping and child molestation in 1999. His punishment was originally three life sentences in prison, but California’s elder parole program, he was granted an early release from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation custody.The Placer County DA’s office said it refiled charges against Funston from 1996 within the state’s statute of limitations. CDCR said Funston was scheduled to be released on Thursday but turned him over to Placer County authorities after a new arrest warrant was issued.The Elderly Parole Program allows for a qualified individual’s elderly parole eligible date to be calculated based on when they turn 50 years old and have served 20 years of continuous incarceration.Funston will be arraigned on next week in Placer County Superior Court. Funston was convicted of kidnapping and child molestation in 1999. His punishment was originally three life sentences in prison, but California’s elder parole program, he was granted an early release from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation custody.
