An online predator who targeted girls in Texas, Ohio, Arizona and Canada was tracked through digital clues and sentenced to 20 years in a Texas prison.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — A multi-state and international investigation has led to a 20-year prison sentence for an Ohio man who exploited children online, including a 13-year-old girl in the Houston area.
In October 2023, a Precinct 4 detective with the Montgomery County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was alerted to a report that a 13-year-old girl had been exploited online and coerced into exchanging child sexual abuse material with a man believed to be an adult.
Investigators said the suspect sent explicit nude images of himself to the child through a social media platform, leaving behind a digital trail that would eventually tie him to similar conduct in multiple jurisdictions. Detectives obtained several headless, shirtless photos from the social media provider and from the victim’s cellphone.
Forensic analysis and metadata did what predators hope they wouldn’t: It identified the sender as 45-year-old Gary Edward Klink, of Girard, Ohio. As the case moved forward, detectives learned Klink was already under scrutiny in Ontario, Canada, where he was accused of grooming a 15-year-old girl.
The Precinct 4 ICAC detective coordinated with the Girard Police Department’s ICAC task force officer, who shared body-worn camera footage from a welfare check at Klink’s home. In that video, investigators noticed a distinctive mole on Klink’s chest that matched a mark seen in the explicit images sent to the Montgomery County victim, providing a key visual link between the man at the door and the man behind the screen.
That corroboration, combined with social media records, cellphone data and metadata, supported a felony arrest warrant for sexual performance by a child under the age of 14. Girard police executed the arrest warrant and a search warrant at Klink’s residence, where they uncovered additional child sexual abuse material and evidence suggesting there were more victims.
Further investigation revealed two additional victims: one in southern Ohio and another in southern Arizona, both groomed in a way consistent with the allegations out of Ontario. Klink was extradited to Montgomery County to face prosecution.
On Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, in a Montgomery County courtroom, Klink pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 20 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden said the case sends a clear message: those who exploit children, “regardless of distance, borders, or jurisdiction, will be identified, pursued, arrested and held accountable.”
