ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A new North Alabama program is aimed at keeping your children safe online.
It’s called the Internet Safety Program and it’s run by Family Services of North Alabama. It was established by the Children’s Trust Fund of Alabama.
Usually, internet safety is taught to parents, but this is directed to children.
It helps children learn the difference between what’s real and what’s fake online.
It’s designed to keep them safe from predators posing as kids on games like Roblox.
Or even scammers who will ask your child questions to get your personal information.
“Not everything you see on social media is factual. Sometimes it’s manipulated. Sometimes, in our day and age, even images are manipulated. And so, some of the games that we have them do, or activities, are just to help them, in real time, see that not everything is the way it appears,“ said Justin Helton, workforce development and education director.
Family services will sometimes use the program in schools, but you can also learn more on its website.
