GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas (KXII) – A Denison man was arrested Friday on charges of possession of child pornography, the latest in a string of child sex crime arrests in the area.
Zachary Turner, 25, was identified through a cybertip alleging he was sharing child pornography online. Detectives determined Turner was allegedly using social media to share several videos depicting child pornography with other online users.
Officers from multiple local law enforcement agencies, the FBI, and the Texas Department of Public Safety carried out a search warrant at Turner’s home in the 800 block of West Munson Street in Denison on March 6. Turner is being held in the Grayson County Jail with bond set at $200,000.
The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office has investigators assigned exclusively to Internet Crimes Against Children cases, according to Capt. Jeremy Cox.
“We take this very seriously here,” Cox said. “The Criminal Investigations Division within the Sheriff’s Office has a couple of investigators that are assigned exclusively to the Internet Crimes Against Children.”
Major platforms are increasingly reporting illegal content to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, who issued the cybertip that led investigators to Turner.
“Google, Bing, Facebook, X — they’ll all contact the National Center,” Cox said. “As the years have gone on, these providers have become more and more aware and are using more and more tools at their disposal to rid their platforms of these images.”
Cox says online platforms remain a primary way for predators to target children.
“When they’re on those platforms, you have no idea who they’re interacting with,” Cox said. “It can be dangerous, because that’s where the predators go to find the kids.”
Cox says parental involvement is necessary.
“It’s not a one and done,” Cox said. “Make sure you’re doing your diligence. Be present every day with your kids.”
Authorities recommend parents enable parental controls on devices and maintain open conversations with their children about online safety.
