MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – More than a dozen men ages 18 to 70 now face felony charges after a five-day, multi-agency operation that targeted online predators across Florida and Alabama.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says “Operation Twelve Parsecs” focused on online contact with minors, the sharing of child sexual abuse material, and attempts to meet minors for sex. Arrests were made in Florida and across the state line in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
Among those arrested were Nicholas Beech of Eight Mile, Christopher Glover of Grand Bay, David Girard of Robertsdale, and Micah Costner of Gulf Shores.
Records show Girard, 70, is a registered sex offender who was convicted in 2009 and served 14 years in prison for using a computer to coerce a 14-year-old into sexual activity.
According to court records, Costner began messaging someone he believed was a 13-year-old girl online. Investigators say Costner was repeatedly told her age, yet still agreed to a “hookup,” picked a location, and was arrested when he arrived.
The other suspects include eight men from Pensacola and one from Crestview. Florida officials say some of the suspects used the internet to contact minors, share child sexual abuse material, or set up meetings with minors for sex.
The cases will be prosecuted by the State Attorney’s Office, First Judicial Circuit.
