An Italo-Brazilian MP is to be
extradited to Brazil to serve a 10-year sentence for hacking
into the National Justice Council, A Rome appeals court ruled
Thursday.
The court of ruled in favour of Brazil’s extradition request for
Brazilian MP Carla Zambelli, arrested on July 29 and currently
detained in Rome’s Rebibbia prison.
The member of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s party, who holds
Italian citizenship, was sentenced to ten years in Brazil for
hacking the National Council of Justice’s (CNJ) computer system.
Zambelli’s lawyers may appeal the decision to the Supreme Court
of Cassation.
“We express satisfaction with the Court of Appeal’s thorough
reconstruction of the numerous legal issues and, above all, with
its confirmation of the absolute legality of the proceedings
conducted in Brazil against Ms. Zambelli,” commented Alessandro
Gentiloni, Brazil’s attorney.
