A senior citizen in Washington Township fell victim to a phone scam last week, according to authorities.
Police said the victim receive a phone call with a caller ID of TD Bank, which happens to be her actual bank. Scammers convinced her to withdraw $7,000 from her bank account, and a courier came by her home to pick up the money.
Members of the Washington Township Police Department are investigating the situation.
“This is a reminder that scams are becoming more sophisticated, and criminals are targeting our senior community,” Washington Township police said in a social media post.
To combat these scams, police are partnering with the FBI to host a senior scam seminar to share information about common scams, how to recognize red flags and how to protect yourself. Free lunch is to be provided.
This event is to take place at the Washington Township Senior Center at 11 a.m. April 9.

All Washington Township senior citizens are invited to attend.
To register, sign up at the senior center — located at 315 Greentree Road — or contact the police chief’s office at 856-589-6664.
