Apple warns of hacker attacks on iPhones and iPads! It has started sending special notifications to users – Letem svetem Applem | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #hacker

Apple began sending out urgent notifications to users of older versions of systems iOS and iPadOS. A notification appears on the lock screen to warn of active hacking attacks. The company explicitly states that it is aware of threats targeting older software and urges that patches be installed immediately.

The reason for this unusual step is the discovery of two dangerous exploits named Coruna and DarkS.wordThese tools allow attackers to take control of a device or steal sensitive data (including passwords and cryptocurrency wallets) simply by clicking on a fraudulent link or visiting a malicious website.

While the set Coruna targets a wide range of versions from iOS 13 up to iOS 17.2.1, newer DarkSword focuses on specific cracks in systems iOS 18. Apple has already released security patches for older models (e.g. versions 15.8.7 and 16.7.15), which allow you to counter potential attacks. If your iPhone offers any update, Apple strongly recommends not to delay the installation.

Users whose devices are already up to date with the versions iOS 15 to iOS 26, are fine. For those who for some reason cannot or do not want to upgrade to newer software, Apple suggests activating Lockdown Mode. This is available from iOS 16 and significantly limits the functionality of the web browser and attachments in the Messages app, dramatically narrowing the attack surface.

This time the warning doesn’t just affect a few users with outdated phones, but also those with a version like iOS 17.0. If you have seen the notification on the screen, definitely do not ignore it. I never rush with updates. But maybe I should change my approach. How are you?
