AI scams are getting smarter. Here’s how seniors can protect themselves | #datingscams #romancescams

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how scams target older adults, making fraud harder to detect and increasing the risk for seniors and their families, according to experts who work with scam victims.

News 9 spoke to Becky Seda with the Senior Living Truth Series to learn how to protect seniors from scams involving A.I.

Do you have any numbers as far as how many scams or how much was lost to put it into context?

Seda: No, but we are a lot. I mean, like we’re seeing it every day, and so at our seminar … We’ve got some detectives that are going to be on the panel as well, and they can for sure shed some light on that.

AI, everybody’s using it, and now scammers are too. It’s hard to detect, so what are you seeing?

Seda: Voice cloning is big. Getting a phone call, and it sounds like someone you know, and then also video, AI video has gotten very, very good. We’re gonna talk about both of those things at our seminar. It is, it’s very difficult to tell the difference.

Who should come to these seminars?

Seda: Our seminar is for seniors and their caregivers, and we just want to offer free information and make sure that people are informed. It’s an important topic.

What do people need to know? Where is it? When is it?

Seda: It’s at Moore Norman Technology Center, the South Penn Campus. It is free. They can register at SeniorLivingTruthSeries.com. It’s Thursday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m.
