RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Nevada, New Hampshire, and Arizona had the largest surges in fraud reports from seniors in the nation, up 52% year-over-year, according to a www.theseniorlist.com/ study.

The study is titled, “Holiday Scams Put Seniors at Risk: How to Shop Securely and Stay Safe Online.” It shows how fraud is impacting seniors in Nevada, New Hampshire, and Arizona.

This year in Nevada, seniors reported $21,036,621 in losses, the study found.

In the 2024 holiday season, $7,732,187 in losses were reported.

Since more seniors are shopping online, scammers are targeting them through phishing emails and delivery scams.

Among seniors who’ve been scammed, 62% have fallen victim to online shopping schemes.

Nevada report highlights include:

  • Senior fraud reports up 52% year-over-year
  • 431 fraud reports per 100,000 Nevada seniors
  • 3,082 reports statewide
  • $21,036,621 in losses

In the first half of 2025 nationwide, seniors lost $1.5 billion to fraud, an 18% increase year-over-year, the report said.
