Man arrested in Syangja for cybercrime and character assassination | Ratopati | #cybercrime | #infosec


Syangja. A 32-year-old man, Sujan Khan Thakuri, has been arrested in Syangja on charges of sending an obscene video of a woman to her relatives via social media and issuing threats.

Police claim that Khan, a resident of Putalibazar Municipality Ward Number 8, used a fake Facebook account to circulate the obscene video online with the intent to assassinate the victim’s character. Police launched an investigation after receiving a complaint that he was sharing the video with the woman’s relatives and subjecting her to verbal abuse and threats.

The District Police Office, Syangja, intensified the search based on a complaint received on 2082 Chaitra 17. The police team successfully apprehended Khan on Chaitra 19 from Sahidchok in Putalibazar Municipality Ward Number 1. Legal proceedings have been initiated against him under the Electronic Transactions Act (Cyber Crime).

According to the District Police Office’s Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Prasanna Raj Chaudhary, a seven-day remand has been granted by the Syangja District Court to further investigate the case against Khan.
