The internet has many layers that remain invisible to ordinary users—and the dark web is one such hidden world. Known as the deeper, unindexed part of the internet, the dark web often becomes a refuge for masked criminal activity.

To crack down on such crimes, especially those destroying the future of children, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), in coordination with the Women Safety Wing, has intensified its action. Police have stepped up cyber patrolling to firmly eliminate child pornography and related online crimes.

‘Undercover’ Operations

Criminals are increasingly using encrypted platforms like Telegram to carry out their activities. After identifying that obscene content was being circulated through such groups, the cyber police decided to go a step further with a decisive strategy.

Officers began entering these Telegram groups undercover, posing as ordinary users. This approach helps investigators identify who is running these groups, trace the source of the content, and closely monitor the key accused involved in these illegal networks.

Record Number Of Arrests

In a series of coordinated raids conducted across the state recently, police carried out a large-scale crackdown. As part of the operation:

13 special teams conducted simultaneous raids across multiple locations.

31 repeat offenders were arrested for crimes such as uploading and storing child sexual abuse material on their devices.

Over the past 10 months, police analysed nearly 1.2 lakh digital baselines in detail.

Through this extensive analysis, a total of 421 accused have been identified and sent behind bars so far.

Support From National And International Agencies

The cyber surveillance drive is not limited to local intelligence alone. It is being carried out with active coordination from national and international organisations. Information shared by bodies such as the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and tip-line data provided by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) is being continuously analysed by the police. Officials have warned that watching, storing, or sharing child sexual abuse videos is a serious criminal offence, and such activities are under constant surveillance.

Telangana’s Own Cyber Patrolling System

Rather than relying solely on inputs from foreign agencies, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has developed its own cyber patrolling mechanism. Using advanced technology, teams are breaking into hidden links on the dark web and deep web.

Along with conducting ‘soft checks’ on individuals searching for illegal content online, police have also drawn up strict action plans against habitual offenders to ensure swift legal consequences.

As technology evolves, crimes are also taking new and more complex forms. However, law enforcement agencies are responding even faster—tracking criminals down to encrypted Telegram groups and the depths of the dark web.

These operations serve as a reminder that an ‘invisible eye’ is constantly monitoring online behaviour, and misuse of digital platforms will not go unchecked.
