South Korean data centre and private 5G network solutions company Newgens said on Sunday it will launch a security-dedicated processor, in cooperation with security computing startup CETHERA, that processes security operations in hardware.

The two companies launched the security processing unit, or SPU, applying a structure in which security operations are handled in separate hardware, with security functions processed in an independent way like existing CPUs or GPUs.

Through the strategic partnership, they plan to propose and run proofs of concept first for CETHERA’s security-dedicated accelerator SPU, the CTHR-01, in data centre and 5G infrastructure environments, then gradually expand its application in the domestic market based on the results.

According to the company, the CTHR-01 includes an AI-based monitoring system called Adeline that analyses device status and provides visual information on operating conditions and security-related details.

Newgens plans to start applying the product to data centre and 5G infrastructure environments from the second quarter of 2026 and then expand into a range of industries.

Newgens Vice President Gyu-cheol Shin (신규철) said, “Efficiency in security processing is becoming important in AI and cloud environments.” He added, “We plan to increase its usability in real operating environments by applying a hardware-based security structure.”
