No arrests in security business owner’s murder

A Middelburg family has been left devastated after 62-year-old Paul Pheka was found murdered in a field near Dennesig, with police confirming that no arrests have been made yet.

Pheka’s body was discovered along a dirt road near the N11 weighbridge. His hands and feet had been bound behind his back, and he had been shot four times.

He was reported missing after leaving his home on March 22 at around 09:00, telling his family he was going to meet someone at a local mall. When he failed to return, concern grew, prompting his son, Tseliso, a constable stationed in Kinross, to travel to Middelburg while his brother monitored the vehicle tracking system.

The family traced Pheka’s vehicle to Avalon, where it was found abandoned with blood on the back seat. A missing person’s case was immediately opened, and a search involving family members, friends, and colleagues from Pheka’s security business was launched.

Further tracking data pointed to the Dennesig area, where Tseliso made the tragic discovery of his father’s body in an open field.

Pheka’s cellphone and identity document remain missing, and the motive for the brutal killing is still unknown.

Described by his family as a disciplined leader who was well known in the community, Pheka had worked in the security industry for many years and founded Mophothome Youth Security Services in Middelburg about a decade ago.

Police investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this stage.
