10 arrested in week-long cybercrime crackdown | #cybercrime | #infosec


Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Cyber Crime Police detected seven cybercrime cases in a week between April 1 and 7, leading to the arrest of 10 individuals from various states.

The investigation exposed a widespread network of cybercrime activity across the country. The investigation revealed the pan-India spread of cybercriminal networks, with offenders from different states. According to Cybercrime, of the 10 arrested, four each were linked to trading frauds and part time jobs fraud, and one each in loan and digital arrest fraud. The important case of this week – the part-time job fraud in which a victim was cheated of Rs 33,44,000 by fraudsters through WhatsApp and a fraudulent online trading platform.

Police arrested four accused Konduru Venu, Parasanaboina Vamshi, A Hari Kumar, and Malagundla Naresh of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for knowingly creating and providing bank accounts to cyber fraudsters for receiving and routing cheated money, in return for commission.

Moreover, the Cybercrime Police obtained 258 refund orders from the court in 46 cases, securing a total amount of Rs 78,28,744 to be returned to those affected.

Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant, particularly against online trading schemes promising high returns. The police urged the public to verify financial transactions, be cautious with personal information such as Aadhaar numbers, bank details, or OTPs, and avoid clicking suspicious links shared via messaging apps or emails. Cybercrime advised citizens that the suspicious calls and messages should be reported immediately by calling 1930 or visiting www.cybercrime.gov.in.
