Hackers Claim GTA 6 Developer Rockstar Games is Once Again Breached | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #hacker

A hacker group has claimed to have breached GTA 6 developer Rockstar Games and set a ransom demand for the developers to pay by April 14.

The group, which goes by the name ‘ShinyHunters’ has added Rockstar Games to its dark web leak website, claiming that the studio has now been breached.

According to the group, the group breached the studio via Anodot, a SaaS cloud-cost monitoring tool that Rockstar uses. The group claims to have gained access to Rockstar Games’ financial data, player spending habits, marketing timelines, and contracts with outsourcing companies.

If the ransom is paid by the group’s April 14 deadline, then all of the code could be leaked online.

So far, there’s been no evidence or claims from the hacker group that player passwords or data have been breached, but it still might be worth changing your passwords and enabling 2FA on your Rockstar accounts if you haven’t already.

Another GTA 6 Hack

For those in the loop, this isn’t the first time that GTA 6 and Rockstar Games have been hacked. In 2022, one hacker breached Rockstar Games in one of the industry’s biggest hacks, leaking over 90 gameplay videos of in-development GTA 6 footage.

During a court hearing following the arrest of the hacker, prosecutor Kevin Barry referred to the GTA 6 leaks during the hearing, saying,

“This material was highly confidential as the game is a billion-dollar franchise and the latest installment is hotly anticipated. He published some of the stolen footage taken during the hack on online forums and blackmailed Rockstar Games that he would release the precious source code which forms the building blocks of the game unless they contacted him – presumably to discuss ransom payment.”

As of the time of writing, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of GTA 6 have yet to make a comment. Should one be received, we will update the article.

GTA 6 is currently scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X. No official release date for PC has been provided yet.
