MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and Fayette County Public Schools partnered to highlight the seriousness of school threats and the laws that apply to them.
In a YouTube video, FCSO Lieutenant Tim Goodroe and FCPS Superintendent Dr. Don McPherson discuss the threats of violence against Fayette County schools. They emphasize that any such threat—whether posted online, spoken face-to-face, or shared with others—will be taken seriously under Tennessee law and may result in school discipline and criminal charges.
Both Lieutenant Goodroe and Superintendent McPherson urged parents to discuss threat prevention and the significance of reporting problems with their children at home.
On December 5, a 15-year-old student at Fayette-Ware High School was taken into custody following a “credible” threat of mass violence targeted at the school.
