The Geek and Detective podcast explores cybercrime in everyday life | #cybercrime | #infosec

A recently launched podcast is tackling cybersecurity by combining technical insight with real investigative experience.

The Geek and The Detective is a monthly show hosted by Amy Lynn and Detective Derrick Stevens, bringing together two distinct perspectives to explore digital risks and online threats.

Amy Lynn, a voice over actress, author and programmer, takes on the role of The Geek, while Derrick Stevens, a serving investigator, plays The Detective.

Each episode examines a topic through both a technical and real-world lens, aiming to make complex issues easier to understand.

The podcast was shaped by a real-life case in 2024, when Amy’s experience led to an ongoing conversation about how traditional policing intersects with digital crime. That moment revealed a gap between existing laws and practical guidance for dealing with online threats.

The series focuses on issues such as cyberstalking, doxing, cyberbullying and hacking, with the hosts offering both preventative advice and responses for listeners facing these situations. It shows how digital risks connect directly to everyday life, rather than existing as abstract technical concerns.

Amy also brings experience from her Faith and Tech Bytes podcast, for which she was named Podcaster of the Year at the Bliss Awards in 2025. In this new project, she works alongside Derrick to combine technical strategy with investigative thinking.

“The Geek and The Detective started as a simple idea — two completely different minds trying to solve the same problem,” Amy said. “It’s part curiosity, part chaos, and a lot of fun. After years of voice work and podcasting, I wanted a show that felt fresh and fun, and this one finally does.”

New episodes are released monthly, with a focus on practical advice, clear explanations and real-world examples.
