Spring Lake Park schools resume operations Wednesday after suspected ransomware attack – Twin Cities | #ransomware | #cybercrime

School will resume Wednesday in Spring Lake Park after the north suburban district was the target of a suspected ransomware scheme this week that affected all operating systems, including phone lines, building security, heating, cooling and fire protection systems.

“Our technology team, working with cybersecurity experts, continues to make significant progress to restore our systems,” a school official said in a prepared statement. “We are also in contact with state law enforcement and the FBI as the investigation into this incident continues. At this early point in the investigation, we don’t have any evidence of any personal information being affected.”

The district’s technology team early Sunday “confirmed that an outside actor gained access to some school district systems in a suspected ransomware incident,” the district said. “Our staff immediately shut all systems down to prevent further access.”

On Monday and Tuesday, the district canceled classes, child care, community education and after-school activities because several technology systems were down. All programs and classes will resume Wednesday, district officials said.
