Senior citizens in Hall County should be wary of scammers using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency schemes.
The Oakwood Police Department said these scams normally begin with a phone call, text message or email that appears to come from a trusted source, such as a bank, government agency, or even a relative in distress.
Victims are often directed to withdraw cash, visit a Bitcoin ATM or send money using a QR code provided by the scammer. Authorities warn that once the funds are transferred, they are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to recover.
The police department emphasizes several precautions for the public: no legitimate agency will request payment in Bitcoin, individuals should take time to evaluate urgent or high-pressure demands, verify claims with a trusted family member or official source and seek help if a situation appears suspicious.
