There are nearly 100,000 lawyers in Australia, but the legal community is still a small one. This was on show this week when lawyers flocked to the Federal Court in Sydney for the long-awaited hearing of building industry data firm Hubexo’s case against rival CoreLogic.
Hubexo accused CoreLogic (now named Cotality) of using the login details of third-party companies (including one founded by fugitive Bill Papas) to access its database and lure new clients back in 2020. It’s become the biggest corporate hacking case in the country’s history, mobilising an army of lawyers. There’s John Hennessy, SC, and Gilbert + Tobin for Hubexo, then Mark Martin, KC, and Mills Oakley for CoreLogic, and junior barristers for both.
