Anthropic has released its latest AI model, Claude Opus 4.7, which will test new cyber capabilities “not as advanced” as those of Mythos Preview.
“We stated that we would keep Claude Mytho’s Preview’s release limited and test new cyber safeguards on less capable models first,” a company press release stated.
Last week, Anthropic announced the creation of Project Glasswing, a security-focused collaboration that includes big-name companies spanning both finance and tech.
The group plans to use the unreleased Anthropic model, Claude Mythos Preview, to hunt and fix software flaws in an effort to “reshape” cybersecurity.
A New Cyber Front Opens
This new launch, although limited to approximately 40 companies, brought scrutiny from regulators regarding potential cybersecurity concerns with its usage.
Many of the largest U.S. banks still run core systems on legacy code dating back decades. If Mythos can surface flaws that every existing security tool missed, banks might be one of the more vulnerable sectors.
The updated Claude Opus 4.7 will be released with safeguards to automatically detect and block requests that indicate prohibited or high-risk cybersecurity uses.
“What we learn from the real-world deployment of these safeguards will help us work towards our eventual goal of a broad release of Mythos-class models,” Anthropic stated.
The updated model will also allow users to see images in a higher resolution, and will assist with the “most difficult tasks.” Although it’s less broadly capable than Mythos, it provides better results than Opus 4.6, the company pointed out.
Early testing of the updated model suggests improved instruction-following capabilities, along with stronger performance in a finance analyst role. The release also notes that Opus 4.7 will include a file system–based memory, enabling it to retain prior work and operate with less upfront context.
