Silal scales ‘Ensure Essentials’ push to strengthen UAE food security – Fast Company Middle East

The United Arab Emirates is strengthening its food security framework through a more resilient and proactive approach to supply chain management, according to Her Excellency Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment.

Speaking during a visit to Silal Group’s facilities in Abu Dhabi, Al Dahak said the country has moved beyond reactive crisis management to establish a system built on long-term preparedness and resilience.

She attributed this progress to the leadership’s forward-looking vision and the coordinated efforts of government entities working to secure supply chains and maintain the sustainability of essential goods.

Accompanied by H.E. Dhafer Al Qasimi, Group CEO of Silal, Al Dahak toured the company’s facilities alongside representatives from government and private sector entities.

The visit highlighted Silal’s role in the food and agricultural technology sector, with a focus on the efficiency of its supply chain infrastructure, operational readiness, and the availability of strategic reserves of essential commodities across the UAE.

Al Dahak described Silal as a strategic partner in strengthening national food security, noting that its approach to expanding supply networks reflects the resilience of the UAE economy and supports market stability. She added that supply chains have continued to deliver food products to markets despite regional challenges.

During the visit, Al Dahak was briefed on Silal’s ‘Ensure Essentials’ initiative, designed to strengthen supply chain readiness and improve the flexibility of delivering key food products across the country.

The initiative supports the agriculture and food sector by maintaining the stable flow of essential goods and improving supply chain efficiency in collaboration with government entities. It includes a portfolio of more than 350 products across nine essential categories, backed by a nationwide logistics network designed to strengthen supply continuity, stabilize prices, and enhance operational efficiency.

Al Qasimi said Silal continues to reinforce food supply chains in the UAE through an integrated system spanning sourcing, storage, and distribution to ensure the steady availability of essential goods.

He also highlighted the role of key government entities in supporting the uninterrupted flow of goods into the country, including the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, and the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority.

Al Qasimi also acknowledged the efforts of teams working across the supply chain to manage recent challenges, noting that their readiness and commitment played a critical role in safeguarding the UAE’s food supply.

The ‘Ensure Essentials’ initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader priorities around food security, economic resilience, and public-private partnerships, while supporting Silal’s long-term goal of building a more reliable and integrated supply system.
