Speaking at the 22nd D P Kohli Memorial Lecture, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant commended the initiative as a vital safeguard against fraudsters pretending to be CBI officials. Such masquerades often involve issuing fake notices on instant messaging platforms, with threats of digital arrest used to coerce individuals.
Senior CBI officials disclosed that these QR codes will manifest notice expiration details, allowing recipients to verify through ABHAY on the CBI website. Chief Justice Kant stressed the importance of broad accessibility and public awareness of ABHAY to enhance its impact, focusing on easy reporting systems and empathetic support for cybercrime victims.
