Former Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden‘s wife, Catherine Blair Bowman, accused her husband of physically attacking her after she confronted him about “sexting teenage girls.”
Bowman filed documents seeking a restraining order against Madden, 46, on Wednesday, July 30, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to TMZ. Bowman claimed Madden physically assaulted her on July 21 at their L.A. home during a conversation about the alleged text messages.
Bowman said in the court filing that she was “terrified” when Madden went “insane” over being confronted about the texts, which she alleged included “sexting teens about his rape fantasy and soliciting lewd images.”
“I am completely traumatized by the discovery that respondent has been engaging in behavior with high school girls that is probably criminal,” she said in the documents, per Billboard. “When I discovered this, I approached him about it and said that I knew what was going on. Respondent then physically beat me repeatedly.”
Bowman accused Madden of shoving her into a kitchen counter as well as chasing her outside their home and pushing her into a gate.
“He put both his arms around my body around my abdomen and arms to restrain me. He then slammed my body against the marble kitchen counter,” she said in the filing. “I felt pain in my hip and waist area. He shoved me to the ground and was out of his mind. I landed on my knees. He kept screaming for me to give him the phone. He appeared literally insane to me. I had never seen such uncontrollable anger and a completely different person.”
Bowman discovered the alleged texts after a teenage girl informed her what Madden had sent, per People.

“I was extremely hurt and disturbed. I needed to understand what was going on between them,” Bowman’s statement read. “When he denied it, I asked him to hand me his phone. He would not hand me his phone, but I could see that he was quickly deleting the evidence from his phone.”
Per reports, screenshotted text messages were submitted as part of the court filing, including an exchange where Madden described the sexting as “a private and fake harmless fantasy” and insisted it had “no bearing on real life at all.”

In a text exchange submitted, Madden allegedly texted Bowman: “I am beyond sorry for my actions and for engaging in any form of expression of those impulses..it’s all completely unacceptable. but I have to draw the line at that characterization of what I did ..This was entirely relegated to text..It’s not excusable by any means but I have to make it clear that I would never act on any of that consensual fantasy talk.”
People reported that Bowman also accused Madden of “physically” abusing her in a separate incident on May 14.
A judge granted a temporary restraining order, which is in place until a scheduled court date of August 20. Madden, who played bass for Maroon 5 from 1994 until 2020, is currently in a rehabilitation facility, according to the court documents.
A representative for Madden could not immediately be found for comment.
