
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Harrison County Commission has confirmed that it has identified a cybersecurity incident impacting some network systems.

12 News received multiple reports of people being turned away from paying their taxes due to a cyberattack on Friday. A 12 News reporter at the courthouse was given the following statement from Harrison County Administrator Laura Pysz, which states:
Harrison County Commission recently identified a cybersecurity incident affecting certain systems in our network, and we are taking immediate steps to respond. We have engaged leading external cybersecurity experts to assist and we have notified law enforcement.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and it is very early in the process. At this time, we are working to determine the scope and nature of the incident. Because of that, we are not in a position to speculate or confirm specific details.
We understand that incidents like this raise important questions for our community. We are committed to sharing timely and accurate information as we learn more.
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as this work continues.
According to Harrison County Sheriff Matheny, this attack is impacting the Harrison County Court House and the Sheriff’s Tax Office.
