CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) – A teen suspect was arrested after police say a social media meetup turned into a deadly shooting at a public park in Cabarrus County, leaving one 16-year-old dead and another seriously injured.
Police said Yanixan Arellanes Silva, 17, met the two victims around 5:25 p.m. Thursday in a parking lot outside Hartsell Park.
Silva had arranged to buy an item the teens were selling through social media, though it was not immediately clear what was being sold.
During the meetup, officials said a fight broke out and Silva allegedly opened fire, striking both victims.
Concord police arrived and found one 16-year-old dead at the scene. The other was taken to the hospital with serious gunshot wounds and remained under care as of April 25, officials said. The victims’ identities have not been released.
Silva was taken into custody Friday and charged as an adult. He faces multiple felony charges, including:
- First-degree murder,
- Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
- Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury (two counts)
- Failure to report a death
The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with additional information about this case is encouraged to call the Concord Police Department or to leave an anonymous tip.
