TOPEKA, Kan. — A controversial online predator-hunting operation unfolded in Topeka Sunday afternoon after members of the groups “Predator Poachers” and “FPC: Falcon Pursuit Coalition” confronted a man they accused of attempting to meet a 13-year-old girl inside a library bathroom.

Video circulating widely on Facebook Reels and other social media platforms shows the confrontation escalating before Topeka police officers arrive and take the man into custody. The footage, posted roughly five hours before publication, has already generated thousands of reactions and comments online.

According to the groups involved, the suspect allegedly believed he was communicating online with a 13-year-old girl and arranged to meet at the Topeka library. In the video, members of the group confront the man outside the building while accusing him of attempting to meet a minor for sexual purposes.
Booking records from the Shawnee County Department of Corrections identify the man as Thomas Michael Lannan, 31, of Topeka. Jail records show he was booked Monday afternoon at approximately 1:10 p.m. on allegations of:
- Interference with law enforcement — felony
- Battery on law enforcement officer involving physical contact with a city or county officer
The jail listing currently shows no bond information available.

The videos posted online do not clearly show what events led to the felony interference and battery allegations. At least one clip appears to show officers struggling with the suspect during the arrest.
As of Sunday evening, no formal charges related to crimes against a child or solicitation of a minor were visible in the public booking record. It is not uncommon for additional charges to be reviewed or filed later following an investigation.

Predator-hunting groups like Predator Poachers and Falcon Pursuit Coalition have gained large online followings by posing as minors online and confronting suspected predators on camera. Supporters argue the groups help expose dangerous individuals, while critics — including some law enforcement professionals — warn that civilian sting operations can complicate criminal investigations and court prosecutions.

Topeka Police have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident or confirmed whether additional charges are expected.
The investigation appears ongoing.
