As online scams continue to target Fili–pinos, GMA Entertainment Group
is tackling the dangers of digital crimes through its new action-drama series “Taskforce Firewall,” a primetime show that combines high-stakes action with cybercrime awareness.
Premiered on May 25 on GMA Prime, the series follows a group of investigators, hackers and analysts brought together “by fate and united by a mission to become cyber protectors.” The story tackles crimes ranging from financial scams to online exploitation while promoting awareness about the growing dangers of cybercrime.
The cast of ‘Taskforce Firewall’
Leading the cast is Kylie Padilla as Isa Cervantes, described as the “heart of the Firewall” and a disciplined strategist living under the shadow of her parents’ legacy. Miguel Tanfelix stars as Galo Villareal, a former soldier haunted by personal trauma and assigned to cybercrime investigations.
Padilla said the series allowed audiences to see a new side of her, especially through physically demanding action scenes.
“One of the things I’m most proud of is the rappelling scene from the 15th. I trained with a harness when I was younger, but it was my first time going down a building. It was scary, but we pulled it off well,” Padilla said during a press conference.
“Our relationship here is like a buddy-cop partnership. We also have good chemistry on screen. I’m really, really happy to be working with him and the rest of the cast,” Padilla added.
Tanfelix described “Taskforce Firewall” as his first “hard action” project and said the role tested him both physically and emotionally.
“The challenge for me was the genre itself. It was my first time doing hard action. But because I was willing to really work hard on set, the whole process became enjoyable,” Tanfelix said.
The actor said his character is emotionally layered and relatable.
“He shows one thing on the outside, but inside he feels something completely different. A lot of people can relate to that. Deep inside, they’re actually hurting,” he said.
Tanfelix added that Galo suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder after serving in the military, connecting the role to his earlier appearance in “The Master Cutter.”
Joining Padilla and Tanfelix are Jak Roberto as Hex Silverio, a survivor-turned-hacker who uses his intelligence to solve crimes; Kyline Alcantara as Callie Sandoval, the team’s financial expert; and Buboy Villar as Jhay-jhay Gonzaga, the Firewall team’s drone and video specialist.
Veteran actors Allen Dizon, Dominic Ochoa and Glenda Garcia also play key roles in the series. Dizon portrays Hernan, Isa’s estranged father, while Ochoa appears as Franco, the director of the PBI who pushes the team to its limits. Garcia plays Tita Glo, a practical but nurturing figure within the PBI office.
Also joining the cast are Rodjun Cruz, Shayne Sava, Cheska Fausto, Anna Abad Santos and John Vic De Guzman, with special participation from Yasmien Kurdi, Mark Herras and Lexi Gonzales.
Several cast members emphasized that the show aims not only to entertain but also to educate viewers about online safety.
“There are so many scams now. People lose their savings with just one click. This show helps families understand the dangers online,” Villar said.
Roberto also warned viewers against phishing schemes and fake banking messages.
“Never give your OTP. Scammers can imitate banks now, so people really need to be careful,” Roberto said.
Directed by Rico Gutierrez with associate director Mark Kevin De Vela, “Taskforce Firewall” airs Mondays through Fridays at 8:55 p.m. after “The Master Cutter” on GMA Prime. The series is also available through Kapuso Stream, GMA Play, GTV and GMA Pinoy TV for international viewers.
