DENMARK, Wis. (WBAY) – A Denmark 5th grader received a huge honor on Friday, becoming Wisconsin’s AAA School Safety Patrol of the Year.
During a school assembly, representatives from AAA surprised Adalyn Geffers with the honor.
She was chosen from candidates across Wisconsin for her leadership, safety knowledge, and community involvement.
As a safety patroller, Adalyn helps 4k and 5k students in the loading zone at drop-off and pick-up to keep them safe.
AAA says she embodies exactly what the school safety program was made for.
“The fact that she doesn’t just answer the call to service, but looks for opportunities for service and provides service, not just in the patrol, but in many other different activities and clubs here at the school,” said Nick Jarmusz, AAA’s director of public affairs.
“My thoughts when I first found out were, ‘Wow. I can’t believe it.’ It’s crazy,” said Geffers.
Adalyn also volunteers at her church, helps neighbors with their young children, and runs microphones on the school’s morning news show.
