RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has joined a coalition of 44 attorneys general urging Congress to reject the House version of the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act and pass stronger legislation to protect children online.
The coalition sent a letter to congressional leadership supporting the Senate version of the act, which includes provisions requiring online platforms to act in the best interests of minors while preserving states’ authority to enforce stronger protections for children and teens.
The House version of the bill would require social media platforms like TikTok to provide parental controls and cut back on collecting data involving children. But the 44 attorneys general say it would limit every state’s power to pass and enforce their own laws aimed at keeping kids safe online.
