LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — As summer kicks into gear, families at the Louisville Zoo spent Friday learning how to keep children safe around water, on the road and during emergencies.
Norton Children’s Hospital hosted a free hands-on summer safety event, giving parents and caregivers tools to help prevent some of the most common injuries children face during the warmer months.
From drownings and car crashes to off-road vehicle accidents, safety experts shared tips and resources aimed at helping families recognize risks before an emergency happens.
According to Safe Kids Worldwide, Kentucky has the 11th-highest rate of unintentional child injury deaths in the nation.
Families explored interactive safety activities and left with emergency kits to take home, helping them prepare for real-life emergencies.
Organizers said the goal was to give parents practical tools and knowledge to help keep kids safe while school is out and summer activities ramp up.
