The City of Fremantle has formally adopted a Statement of Commitment to Child Safety and Wellbeing, reaffirming its responsibility to create safe, inclusive and supportive environments for children and young people.
The commitment applies wherever children and young people interact with, access, or are impacted by City services, facilities, programs, events and community spaces.
The Statement reflects the findings of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and aligns with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
The adoption of the Statement is a key milestone in the City’s broader Child Safe Organisation Project, which includes policy review, staff training, governance improvements and ongoing continuous improvement initiatives.
The City recognises that child safety is a shared responsibility across the organisation, including elected members, employees, volunteers, contractors and community partners.
The Statement also acknowledges the importance of creating culturally safe and inclusive environments for all children and young people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children with disability, children from diverse cultural backgrounds, and children who may be vulnerable or experiencing disadvantage.
The City is committed to embedding child safety and wellbeing across all levels of the organisation and continuously improving how it supports children and young people in the Fremantle community.
