Evanston Township High School says that a ransomware attack “distrupted access to district systems, internet services, and computer infrastructure” on Sunday, June 7.
Because of that, ETHS will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, with all summer school, sports camps, and other on-campus activities cancelled for both days.
In a website posting, the school adds that when the breach was discovered, ETHS immediately activated its internet response procedures and “engaged external cyber breach attorneys and cybersecurity experts to assist with the investigation and recovery process.”:
The FBI has also been called in.
ETHS says it is working to determine “precisely what information may have been accessed or acquired and to restore normal systems operations is quickly as possible.”
As the investigation and recovery continue, ETHS says that “phone systems are unavailable, and staff may have limited access to email. Families may not be able to access certain online tools, accounts, or school resources at this time, including Home Access Center.
Regular updates, including if school and event cancellations will continue past Tuesday, will be posted on eths202.org/Cybersecurityincident.
