MONTROSE, Mich. (WJRT) – Kuehn-Haven Middle School and the Montrose Township Police Department are investigating after a fourth-grader was threatened online by a stranger who made inappropriate sexual requests.

School officials say the student created a Snapchat account without parental consent. An unknown person contacted the student and attempted to start a relationship, according to the school.

During the interaction, the student shared her location before removing it. The individual then made inappropriate sexual requests, school officials say.

When the student did not comply, the person made a threat. School officials say there is no credible known threat to the school community at this time.

The Montrose Police Department is investigating the incident.

School officials are reminding parents to monitor their children’s online activity. They are also urging families to talk to kids about the dangers of communicating with strangers online and to reinforce that personal information should never be shared.

The school thanked the Montrose Township Police Department and Principal Mrs. Birchmeier and her team for their swift response and continued efforts.
