China-linked hackers have been identified as the most significant espionage threat to technology companies in the past year, according to a report by CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm. The report highlights increased cyber activities amidst rising investments in artificial intelligence.
The hacking efforts are aligned with China’s strategic objectives, particularly targeting areas with high strategic and economic value, such as technology development and intellectual property. The report notes that the technology sector remains a top target for foreign governments and cybercriminals, despite not naming specific companies involved.
The findings cover a period from April 2025 to March 2026, during a time of heightened AI developments and investments. The White House has accused Chinese entities of large-scale espionage, while threats from North Korean, Russian, and Iranian hackers persist. Financial motives are also driving an increase in cybercriminal activity.
