Jay Lamar Stauffer, 63, who had been convicted in 2011 for multiple sexual offenses against children, entered pleas on Tuesday for an assault of a then-8-year-old.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — The Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office announced the sentencing of a designated Sexually Violent Predator for sexually assaulting a child.
According to the Office of District Attorney Seán M. McCormack, Jay Lamar Stauffer, 63, entered pleas before a judge to indecent assault of a child and corruption of minors. Stauffer was sentenced to a term of incarceration followed by a consecutive period of supervised probation.
The Office of the DA said Stauffer had been previously convicted in 2011 for multiple sexual offenses against children and had been previously designated as a Sexually Violent Predator.
In 2024, following his release from prison, the Office of the DA said Stauffer sent handwritten letters to various family and community members detailing sexual offenses committed throughout his life.
These letters were given to State Police, who learned of multiple previously unreported victims, including an incident involving a then-8-year-old girl.
The victim, now an adult, said that Stauffer touched her under her clothing while she was at a sleepover at his home. She said Stauffer told her not to tell anyone, particularly his wife since she would get jealous.
The Office of the DA said the victim told the judge about the burden of carrying Stauffer’s crimes throughout the years and asked the court to protect other children in the community from becoming his next victims.
The judge reaffirmed Stauffer’s designation as a Sexually Violent Predator and ordered him to have no contact with any children for the duration of his sentence.
