HYDERABAD: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has conducted a statewide verification drive under “Operation Crackdown 3.0” to trace, verify and monitor accused persons involved in cybercrime cases registered across its seven Cyber Crime Police Stations (CCPSs).
As part of the operation, authorities identified 127 accused persons residing in Telangana for verification. Among them were 57 Telangana residents who had previously been arrested by law enforcement agencies in other states in connection with various cybercrime cases.
The operation focused on monitoring the current whereabouts, lifestyle, activities and status of the accused persons, including assessing whether they continued to be involved in criminal activities.
Simultaneous checks conducted across the state
To ensure comprehensive verification, simultaneous field inspections were carried out by Cyber Crime Police Stations and District Cyber Crime Coordination Centres (D4Cs) functioning under TGCSB. Officials conducted door-to-door verification and local enquiries to ascertain the present activities and locations of the identified accused persons.
Analysis of the 127 accused profiles revealed that impersonation-related frauds were the most common offences, involving 48 accused persons. Investment frauds accounted for 27 accused persons, while digital arrest scams involved 11 accused persons.
Together, these three categories accounted for nearly 68% of all accused profiles, indicating that they remain among the most frequently used methods employed by cybercriminals.
103 accused verified, 24 still being traced
The operation resulted in the successful tracing and verification of 103 accused persons. Efforts are continuing to locate the remaining 24 accused persons.
According to TGCSB, Operation Crackdown 3.0 included geo-tagging of locations, monitoring of financial and digital activities, identification of associates and support networks, and local enquiries to assess the conduct of accused persons.
The exercise was aimed at strengthening intelligence-led policing, enhancing continuous monitoring of cybercrime offenders, identifying emerging cybercrime networks and reinforcing deterrence against repeat offences.
TGCSB said the operation reflects its continued commitment to strengthening cybercrime enforcement, monitoring habitual cyber offenders, improving inter-state coordination and ensuring effective follow-up action against individuals involved in cybercrime activities.
Police warn cyber offenders of continued surveillance
In a statement, TGCSB said Operation Crackdown 3.0 sends a clear message that cybercrime offenders will continue to remain under police surveillance even after their arrest.
“The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau and Telangana Police remain committed to protecting citizens from cyber fraud by keeping a close watch on cyber offenders and taking necessary action to prevent cybercrime,” the bureau said.
The operation was overseen by Shikha Goel, IPS, Director, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, Hyderabad
